Did you know that if you don’t write a Will the Government dictates how your estate will be distributed?

Statistics show that many of us still haven’t made a Will, which is startling considering how important a Will is for leaving what you want, to who you want.

It is vital to make sure you have thought about the practical and financial implications of your death and make provision for your loved ones - as well as ensuring that your most treasured possessions go to the people you want them to.

There are also many other good reasons to write a Will. For instance, you may wish to specify a particular guardian for your children should they not have a surviving parent. Or you may wish to specify whether you want a burial or cremation at your funeral, or maybe you wish to leave a donation to a particular charity?

Even if you already have a Will, failing to keep it up to date is almost as bad as not having one at all. Consider the implications of forgetting to add an additional child or grandchild as a beneficiary!

It is also important to note that divorce, remarriage and the dissolution of a civil partnership may cause parts of your Will to be nullified. If you have an existing Will, think about it... is it really still appropriate? Now could be the time to ensure your Will is up-to-date by contacting our partners Skipton Financial Services. .
